Our sphagnum moss is sustainably collected in the UK under license. This wonderful living organism is key to many ecosystems due to its moisture-retaining properties, the abundance of nutrients it contains, and its natural antibacterial content.

We like to use its moisture retaining properties to provide a lush wet substrate in our moss poles for your plants to latch onto with their aerial roots, letting them benefit from all the features we just mentioned. Sphagnum moss can hold up to 20 times its weight in water!

Use this self-propagating tissue-like plant to fill our moss poles, top dress your pots to retain moisture, propagate cuttings and seeds, add moisture retention to your specialized substrate mix, or as living mulch for your swampy plants (carnivorous plants, some ferns and orchids, etc.)!

How much do I need?

XL Line:

Our XL line is designed to hold about 1 litre of moss per section, which is why we've sized our bags to hold 2 sections' worth of moss.

Starter kit (50 cm) --> 1 x bag

100 cm --> 2 x bags

150 cm --> 3 x bags

200 cm --> 4 x bags

D-Shaped Line:

Single module (30 cm) --> 1 x bag

60 cm --> 2 x bags

90 cm --> 2 x bags

120 cm --> 3 x bags

How do I care for it?

Before use:

Store out of direct sunlight, in a cool spot. Ensure it does not dry out, as it is a living organism.

In a moss pole:

Water and mist your moss pole regularly to keep the sphagnum alive and thriving, you'll find it begins to grow!

If you have allowed your moss pole to dry out completely, the moss will become hydrophobic, and water poured onto it will just roll off. Not to worry! There are several options for returning your moss to its natural state:

You can mist the surface thoroughly, allow the water to absorb, then mist again.

You can submerge the entire moss pole in water, leaving it for a few minutes to absorb water once more.

You may use a Horticultural Wetting Agent like Aqua Burst to allow the water to penetrate the moss rather than rolling off.

Our preferred option is to add a SlowDrip cap to the top of your pole, which will release water at a rate that even the crustiest of moss will be able to absorb, allowing  you to fill up and leave the cap to do the work for you! An even more advanced method would be to use the Adjustable Slow Drip, as with this device you can control the rate at which the water will drip out.

The moss is sourced and packaged by us in non-PET, reusable, recyclable, resealable bags adorned with an untreated paper sticker that is also recyclable. We highly encourage you to reuse this bag.

At this time we are only shipping live moss to the UK.
